Oleksandr Usyk (16-0, 12KOs) who was the 2018 fighter of the year as well as the former undisputed cruiserweight champion will be moving up to heavyweight when he takes on unbeaten Tyrone Spong (14-0, 13KOs) at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The Fight will be presented live via DAZN.
Southpaw Usyk has accomplished so much thus far. A 2012 Oympic gold medalist from Ukraine as well as becoming the first cruiserweight to unify all four belts claiming the the right to be called undisputed champion. Since dominating the cruiserweight division, when Usyk moved up to heavyweight he is upgraded as a WBO heavyweight mandatory challenger. A win for Usyk against Spong will but him in line to be a future challenger to the winner of Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua in their much anticipated rematch on December 7th.
Spong is a former kickboxing veteran with a 13 year long career in which he went 91-7-1 with 60 KOs in kickboxing. Spong switched over to boxing in 2015. Spong will have his hands full come fight night against a technically sound boxer in a southpaw Usyk. A win for Spong would boost his stock substantially.
A step up in weight for Usyk and a step up in competition for Spong but who will rise to the occasion? tune in on October 12th on DAZN to find out!
