Masayuki Ito (25-1-1, 18KOs) will be looking to make his second title defense of his WBO junior lightweight title against Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring (19-2, 10KOs) in Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimme, Florida on May 25th and will be presented on ESPN starting at 10PM/ET via Top Rank Promotions.
Ito claimed his title in Kissimme, Florida from Christopher” Pitufo” Diaz, which was his first fight in the states back in July of 2018 via decision. Ito returned to his homeland of Japan to make the first defense of his title against Evgeny Chuprakov, winning via 7th round stoppage. All things come full circle as he returns back to Florida once again to make another defense of his title.
Herring is a former marine, and looks to use the discipline and tough will power he attained from being in the service to take the belt away from Ito. Herring is aware that he is going against tough competition, and in reference to Ito he stated that he “will not be bullied like his last two opponents once the bell rings”. Herring also will be dedicating this fight for his daughter Ariyanah who would have turned 10 on May 25th, she passed away from sudden infant death syndrome.
Both fighters will be putting it all on the line come fight night in Florida. Tune in and don’t miss out on the action on May 25th!
