4 division champion and Mexican-American superstar Mikey Garcia (39-0, 30KOs) will move up in weight yet again to challenge the IBF champ, one of the welterweight division’s top dogs and Texas native Errol “The Truth”Spence Jr. The fight is to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas, Which is home to the Dallas Cowboys. The fight will also be presented live by PBC via FOX PPV on Saturday, March 16th at 9PM ET/ 6PM PT.
Errol Spence Jr. (24-0, 21KOs) as climbed the ranks of the welterweight division. While Keith Thurman underwent surgery and was put out of commission for some time Errol Spence Jr. Claimed the throne in the division. Spence went across the pond to challenge Kell Brook for the IBF title which ended in a stoppage that resulted in a broken orbital bone suffered by Brook. Since then the Southpaw Spence has stayed at the top dominating his opponents with devastating bodywork to wear them down and then putting the nail in the coffin once he smells blood.
Mikey Garcia looks to expose “The Truth” and solidify his name on the P4P list. Mikey is naturally the smaller man coming into this fight. As a fighter Mikey is fundamentally sound. He exhibits perfect textbook style boxing. Kell Brook was outboxing Spence early on in their fight before succumbing to a broken orbital bone and losing via stoppage in the middle to later rounds. Mikey Garcia can use the same tactic and try to outbox Spence. Mikey needs to not stay on the inside and exchange big shots with the bigger man. Spence will look to break down the body to slow mikey down until he can go in for the kill and get the stoppage. If Mikey fights smart, use his boxing IQ, stay tight and avoid damage, he can pull an upset.
Will the king of 147, Errol Spence be dethroned? Will Mikey Garcia’s campaign at 147 come to an abrupt halt? We will find out 16th when these two warriors collide in Texas!
