Billy Joe Saunders (26-0 12KOs) and Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (25-0 16KOs) were ready to go to war Oct 20th but due to a positive test for a banned substance (oxilofrine), brought to light by VADA, Billy Joe was denied a boxing license by the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission.
A replacement for Billy Joe has been made. Andrade will fight Walter Kautondokwa (17-0 16KOs) who is the #2 WBO contender. Kautondokwa hails from Windhoek, Namibia in Africa which is where most of his fights have taken place. This will be Kautondokwa’s first fight in the United States. Kautondonkwa has tried in the past for a shot at Saunders and his title and fate has put him in line for the title with the taking of Saunders place in this fight.
Andrade and Kautondonka were to originally fight for the interim WBO middleweight title but once Billy Joe Saunders found out about his denial for the boxing license he voluntarily vacated his title. WBO president Francisco Paco Valcárcel has confirmed that Saunders relinquished the title of his own volition. Andrade and
Kautondonka will now fight for the full, vacated WBO middleweight title.
Andrade has been training for a bout against southpaw Saunders but now will fight an orthodox
Kautondonka who is a fairly unknown fighter, who’s only tidbit we know about is that in his 17 bouts he has only gone the distance once. This could either be good or bad for Andrade. Come fight night we should anticipate a great fight!
