The longest current reigning WBC Champion Gary Russell Jr. Will put his Featherweight title on the like against mandatory challenger, undefeated Tugstsogt “King Tug” Nyambayar Saturday, February 8th at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania and will be presented live on Showtime.
Russell Jr. (30-1, 18KOs) has held his title since 2015, a title he snatched from multiple division champion Jhonny Gonzalez via stoppage. Also on his resume Russell Jr. has notable win against former champion Kiko Martinez via stoppage. Russell Jr. has also handed then unbeaten Joseph Diaz Jr his first loss back in 2018. Russell Jr. has been voicing his frustration at being the longest current reigning WBC champ yet no one has stepped up to the challenge, he looks to displays his elite skillset and take care of business against this strong opponent possibly opening the door to bigger fights. Gary Russell Jr. has arguably the fastest hands in the business and he throws them from a southpaw stance.
Nyambar (11-0, 9KOs) is represented his native Mongolia in the 2012 Olympics. Nyambar is coming off a 12 round decision against former champion Claudio Marrero who also is a southpaw like Russell Jr. Nyambar is going up against a tough champion but he is hungry, and in boxing crowns can get passed fairly quickly Russell the king now but that crown can be passed to “King Tug” in an instance. Tune in on February 8th and find out who will be crowned king!
